Silicon carbide shelf has become one of the main kiln furniture in industrial kilns such as tableware, industrial art porcelain, and sanitary ware because of their high-temperature strength, good thermal conductivity, and excellent thermal shock resistance.
However, if it is used improperly way, defects such as cracks, deformation, and slag may occur which will even affect the product quality and cause inconvenience.
Silicon carbide has the advantages of high thermal conductivity, good thermal stability, high-temperature strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., but poor oxygen resistance affects its service life. Therefore, during the use of silicon carbide plates, the following items should be paid more attention to.
1.Firing temperature
SiC shelves are suitable for higher temperatures, but should not exceed 1500 degrees, and the use effect of 1150 degrees is not as good as 1300 degrees.
2. Cooling control
SiC shelves generally have a better use effect in reducing the atmosphere, and longer service life, and the cooling speed should not be too fast, especially the cold wind should not blow to the plates to avoid cracking. When the temperature drops below 600 degrees, the temperature should not drop too fast, so as not to cause the volume effect due to the crystal transformation.
3. When placed In the kiln
The SiC shelves should be supported on 3-4 points to ensure they are on the same plane, and the pillars of each plate should be kept on the same vertical plane. The silicon carbide plate should be kept as horizontal as possible during use to prevent damage.
When the combustion products enter the kiln, shelves should be kept as dry as possible, and the contact area between the combustion products and SiC shelves should not be too large. New kiln shelves should remain stable after multiple uses, so they should be put in a place with a suitable temperature.
4. Alumina coating (kiln wash)
If the glaze melts on the shelf, it will hit the kiln shelf. Alumina coating is a basic kiln wash that contains alumina and kaolin.
Alumina coating could be painted on the upside surface of SiC shelves. Once the glaze hits the shelf, it does prevent glaze from sticking.
